Gold Star Standard
top
The Gold Star Standard is here to give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you are working with a serious, devoted, dog breeder who strives to provide the best puppies possible. To become a Gold Star Breeder, breeders meet a rigorous set of requirements in order to assure that they are providing the best puppies possible. Gold Star Breeders must go through an application process where their breeding program is evaluated, and they must show proof of meeting all requirements of the Gold Star Standard in order to obtain Gold Star Breeder status. Breeders must practice all of the following requirements in order to be esteemed as a Gold Star Breeder:
  • All puppies from Gold Star Breeders are covered by a health guarantee. A copy may be viewed in each breeder’s ad, or from any of their puppy ads.
  • All puppies sold by Gold Star Breeders will receive a health certificate from the veterinarian’s office before going to their new home.
  • Gold Star Breeders are members of a recognized dog club. Acceptable clubs:
    • AKC national or regional breed clubs
    • AKC all-breed clubs
    • Similar UKC clubs
    • Parent breed registry clubs for non-AKC breeds
  • At least one parent (sire and/or dam) of each litter from a Gold Star Breeder is a conformation champion, or has a performance title. Seekers/Buyers may ask for proof of this when considering a puppy.
  • All sires and dams receive health screenings appropriate to their breed. Seekers/Buyers may ask the breeder to see proof of these health screenings when considering a puppy.
  • All puppies advertised by Gold Star Breeders are registerable with either the AKC, CKC, APR, UKC, IABCA, ACA, ACR, FCI, KCGB, NKC, NZKC, NAMASCUSA, or MASCA.
  • Gold Star Breeders do not sell their puppies to agents or wholesalers.
  • Gold Star Breeders will keep their breeder ad completely filled out, complete with pictures of their breeding facilities.
Breeders who attain this status but fail to maintain the requirements will lose their Gold Star title. If you feel that any Gold Star Breeder you work with doesn’t adhere to these requirements you may submit comments to Support@SelectPuppy.com.
